Historic District Surveys
Kelsey & Associates has experience in conducting intensive
level history surveys for many communities in and around Washington,
DC., including Greater U Street, Shaw, and Tenleytown. Selected
as the contractor from the local neighborhood organizations (as
recipient of funding from the city's Historic Preservation Division),
Kelsey & Associates works with local volunteers to completely
document the existing structures through investigative research,
building permits, census, and digital photography. Combined with
a historical context for the neighborhood, the results are a richly
illustrated and integrated text document with database tables
and source material that communities can consult when planning
future preservation decisions. Each report also includes several
preservation recommendations and options.
The
Shaw East Survey
The
Shaw East survey, begun in 2000, included a total of 23 full or
partial Squares containing 781 individual structures or properties.
Its general boundaries are N Street to the south, Florida Avenue
to the north, 7th Street to the west, and New Jersey Avenue to
the east. Click here
